Five arcade racers that feel great on a touchscreen

Racing games on phones live or die by their controls. Tilt steering is fine for some, but the games that stick with me are the ones that keep everything to a thumb or two without losing the sense of speed.

Nitro Drift League is my current favourite for exactly this reason. The two-button drift setup is so readable that after a few races your hands just know what to do. Speed reads clearly even on a smaller screen.

The best arcade racers also understand session length. Nobody wants a twenty-minute endurance race on a bus ride, so the good ones keep tracks short and let you retry instantly. That loop of one-more-go is what keeps them installed.

My advice: skip anything that forces tilt-only steering and demands you hold the phone at an awkward angle. Look for games that give you options and let you tune the controls.
